Can a Ring Doorbell Be Connected to More Than One Phone

Ring Doorbells are an added security feature for many homes because so many packages are stolen off the porch each year. If we have no proof that the product was not received then it is much harder to prove to a retailer that we did not get the delivery.

The ring app can help by providing proof that the package was not delivered or evidence to the police if it was actually stolen. The ring app can detect movement on that parch and can be accessed using your phone.

However, the question I’m most commonly by my neighbours is can a ring doorbell be connected to more than one phone?

The simple answer is Yes. A Ring Doorbell can be connected to more than one phone by either creating shared users from the main account or by downloading the Ring app on multiple devices using the same login and password credentials. Both methods are easy to accomplish. Let me show you how.

How to connect multiple phones to the Ring doorbell?

I have read through the Ring doorbell manual and this is how you can create shared user accounts for your family members or trusted friends. I am assuming here that you have downloaded the Ring app from the AppStore or play store and have already set up your main Ring account. Without any more waiting here are the steps:

  • Tap on the three lines at the top left on the Dashboard screen.
  • Tap your devices icon in the top left corner of your screen.
  • Tap on the device that you want to add a Shared User to.
  • Tap Shared User (you might have to scroll to see it).
  • Enter the email address of the person you want to add as a Shared User.
  • Tap Add User – the email address will be the new user will be added under “shared users” and still indicate “pending invite”.
  • Tap Send Invite.
  • The Shared User can accept the invitation via a link in their email. It can take up to 60 seconds for shared devices to show up in the app after the Shared User accepts the invitation. For Ring Alarm system Shared User invitations, it may take up to 15 minutes for the devices to appear in their Ring app.
  • Click on the link in the email and you will be brought to a new screen where you will be allowed to create a Ring account.
  • Type in your email and create a password and click “next” to continue.
  • Now it is time to create and download the Ring doorbell app on your phone and sign in to your Separate ring account app.

What can a shared user do?

  • Answer and receive alerts when someone presses the doorbell or triggers motion sensors on cameras.
  • View stored videos if you are enrolled in a Ring Protect Plan.
  • Turn on and off alerts for their own account on a smartphone, tablet or PC.
  • Save videos directly to their smartphone, tablet, laptop or computer.
  • Use smart locks and/or arm or disarm Ring Alarm systems.

A Shared User cannot:

  • Delete stored videos or shared videos.
  • Delete devices from your account.
  • Change or adjust any device settings.
  • Add other Shared Users.

Log into the main Ring account using multiple devices

The first option was to create sub-accounts for additional members of your family or friends. This alternative option allows you to log in to your main account using multiple devices.

In order to sign in to the single account from multiple devices the main account holder only has to download the ring app on the different devices and then sign in to the devices using the main user login and password.

It is a must risker using this method because all the devices will have full access to the account and can delete or view whichever video or saved data that they like. Device settings can also be changed and other shared users can be added by anyone who has the phone with the logged-in credentials.

What Devices Can Be Used To Operate A Ring Doorbell?

The beauty of the Ring doorbell system is the flexibility it offers. You can get them battery operated or wired. Most importantly, it can be connected to multiple devices from phones to IFTTT systems.

Phones

Our phones ensure that we are not stuck in one location looking on a monitor or a CCTV screen. Instead, we can use the convenience of our phone monitor. Phones are mobile, we have them with us all the time.

The ring app can be downloaded on many different phone operating systems – IOS, Android, or Windows. You can use any Apple iPhones, Google Pixel phones, Samsung phones, any other Android phones or Windows phones (if they still exist or if anyone still uses them).

Tablets

Tablets are preferred by some people when they are in a stationary position like in an office and they want to see the action on a bigger screen. It is not as convenient as a phone but it is workable.

Any recent tablet on the market can work. The process is similar to the phone. Some of the most popular types of tablets used by Ring owners are the App iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, and Sony tablets.

The tablets are plug and play just like the phones but with bigger screens. The potential drawback of the tablet is that it is not as mobile as the phone.

Smart TV

The ring doorbell can be connected with your smart tv and feature as part of your smart home project. Since amazon bought Ring you can that it must be compatible with their Amazon fire smart tv

Google is the master of everything therefore their crome-cast are connectable with the Ring doorbell. Not all smart TVs are connectible with the ring doorbell, make sure you check before you purchase.

Smart TVs offers the convenience of seeing what is happening outside while you are watching a film without having to search for your phone or tablet to see what is happening.

Alexa

The Ring doorbell is compatible with a number of Alexa products. The Ring doorbell is compatible with Alexa Show, Alexa Spot, and Alexa Smart TVs like Alexa Fire TV. The Echo and Dot are only audio compatible because they do not have any video display unit.

You can connect the ring doorbell to these devices through the Alexa app and log in with your ring account login credentials.

Google Home

Some of the google home smart devices can be connected to the ring doorbell. Chromecast Smart Tv can work with the Ring doorbell. The Google Home works better with Nest since it is a google product while Ring is an Amazon product.

Look out for compatibility issues because you know these big companies want to keep market share and may make their product incompatible with their competitors. They may be only for a short time until all the kinks in the system are ironed out. Compatibility issues are normal only for a short time.

IFTTT

Ring Doorbell will work with “if this, then that,” (IFTTT) systems. This system is for the more advanced smart home person. If you want to use the IFTTT system you will have to download the IFTTT app from the app or play store and create an account. Follow the instructions given to add the Ring doorbell.

Note:

You may have to pay a monthly fee to access unlimited video storage so that you can see videos taped in the past. If you do not have a monthly subscription you will only be able to see live action.  It is not too expensive to get the Ring monthly subscription.

Verdict

Ring doorbells can be signed into by multiple shared users. Be careful who you give access to your home. It is better to give shared accounts to family members that you trust instead of signing into the app using your credentials as the main account holder. Thanks for visiting DIY Home Guru.
